Electrician logo design

I was commissioned to create a logo for a small electrical engineering company. The primary goal was to design a visually appealing and professional logo that would effectively communicate the company's industry.

Industry analysis

A logo that clearly communicates its industry is crucial for a small firm. It establishes recognition, conveys expertise, and fosters trust, making it a powerful marketing tool for attracting the right audience and ensuring future growth and success.

During my market analysis, I thoroughly examined companies' websites in the same industry and paid close attention to various logos displayed on work vans in real-life settings. This research helped me gain valuable insights into industry trends and common design elements, enabling me to create a logo that resonates with the target market and aligns with established visual practices.

Font & color choice

In my market analysis, I noticed that many Swedish companies in the same industry commonly utilized the color orange, representing energy and innovation. This led me to incorporate the color into the logo design.

For the font selection, I opted for "Ubuntu" as it aligns with the industry's modern and sleek preferences, conveying technological advancement and professionalism. The combination of orange and "Ubuntu" enhances the logo's energetic appeal, making it relevant and visually appealing.

Gathering inspiration

Since the company's name includes the word "Torp" (Cottage in English), I thought it would be a fun and memorable idea to incorporate a simple silhouette of a house. I looked at examples of logos featuring houses and sought help from the AI tool Midjourney to generate logo samples. The results were more amusing than useful, but it was intriguing to notice that Midjourney always used the color orange for an electrician company, without me asking for a specific color. This suggests that this color might be commonly used internationally within the industry, which is of course a good thing.

First draft

I started by creating a draft to visualize my initial ideas. The client provided feedback, expressing that they liked the overall feel of the orange color, the font, and the concept of the house framing the text. They also appreciated the lightning icon, which effectively communicated the firm's purpose. However, they requested a more symmetrical design where all elements were centered.

New suggestions

I aimed to maintain the style and shape the client appreciated in the initial draft. The focus was on creating a minimalist, centered, and symmetric design. As an idea to enhance the cabin illusion for the more minimalist versions without walls, I considered incorporating a chimney. However, I was mindful of the potential impact on symmetry and was uncertain if the client would favor this addition. To ensure comprehensive options, I therefore created versions of all suggestions both with and without a chimney.

Logo variants

After the client selected their preferred logo, I provided various logo variations for different purposes, including the full logo, text with the icon, text only, and icon only.

Each variant (except the icon) was offered in four different color options, suitable for light backgrounds, dark backgrounds, monochrome (black), and monochrome (white). This wide range of formats and colors ensures the logo's adaptability for various contexts, accommodating different usage scenarios and sizes.

Handbook

To assist the client in using their new logo effectively, I compiled a handbook containing information about various logo variants, color options, and file types. I also included a section detailing the colors and fonts used. Knowing that the client had also ordered a new website, I added some suggestions for matching colors that would harmonize well with the primary orange color.
